Michael Panton is a Guitarist and Tutor from Hobart, Tasmania.
Michael graduated from the University of Tasmania's Conservatorium of Music in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music. He now performs with a wide range of other local artists including folk/rock group The Christopher Coleman Collective, Organ trio The Stitch and Hiphop act Skunk. His work with these groups have given him the opportunity to perform in a variety of venues around Australia. Highlights include on the main stage at the Marion Bay Falls Festival in 2012, at The Port Fairy Folk Festival and in the Rosny Barn at the Clarence Jazz Festival.
Michael also co-founded the jazz trio Soup and the group performs many of his original compositions and arrangements. With a strong emphasis on improvisation and reinterpreting material from various eras, Soup’s sound is a melting pot of musical influences that reflects the personalities of the group members in a creative and original format. Following several successful performances at local venues in 2012 and 2013, Soup recorded a self funded album in 2014, that was released at the Clarence Jazz Festival in February 2014.
